Nevada’s Leading Organization for Career Development and Transition
The Nevada Division on Career Development and Transition (NV-DCDT) is the only statewide organization in Nevada whose sole focus is advancing the community and workplace integration of individuals with exceptionalities. We work to improve the quality of career development and transition services for youth with special needs in Nevada.
We are dedicated to providing Nevadans with the best possible career development and transition services so that they may achieve equity. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to reach their fullest potential, and we are committed to helping them get there.
NV-DCDT is a state division of the International Division on Career Development and Transition (DCDT), affiliated with the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
The Primary Purposes of NV-DCDT are:
- To enhance the career development of people with disabilities from early childhood through adulthood by implementing successful career awareness programs, career exploration, career preparation, transition from school to employment, and community living.
- To encourage and support professional development, research, legislation, and information distribution among Nevada individuals and organizations active in the career development and transition of people with disabilities.
Our Mission
Helping Nevadans reach their fullest potential
Our mission is to ensure that all Nevada youth with exceptionalities have access to quality career development and transition services so they may achieve equity and reach their full potential. We provide professional growth opportunities, legislative advancement support, advocacy training, and interagency cooperation among organizations committed to inclusive career development and transition nationwide to meet this goal.
We believe …
- Career development and transition are the cornerstones for successful transition and positive post-school outcomes.
- Career development and transition procedures are developmental and should have a life planning perspective.
- Career development and transition processes require interdisciplinary and interagency collaboration and new connections among parents and professionals in education, community services, and job sectors.
- Person-centered approaches to career development and transition should be used to empower participants to take charge of their own destinies.
- Self-sufficiency is fostered during a vital period in developing individuals with exceptionalities through career advancement and transitional activities.
- To achieve equity in post-school outcomes for students from all backgrounds, including those with disabilities, racial/ethnic minorities, low socioeconomic status, and a variety of languages spoken at home and school, career development and transition efforts must consider their cultural preferences, strengths, and needs.
Policy and advocacy that shapes the future of individuals with exceptionalities
We are dedicated to shaping policies and practices that impact the quality of career development and transition services of individuals with exceptionalities in our state.
As advocates for individuals with exceptionalities, we play a crucial role in influencing state and local policies. Members and constituents of the NV-DCDT can rely on us to keep a look out for and investigate significant issues and assist, define, and implement public policy.
Our policy and advocacy efforts work to build and sustain a strong network within Nevada to ensure our members are well informed of the policy issues concerning individuals with exceptionalities. Our committee is pivotal to progress in Nevada’s legislature and local governments.
